AJ Lloyd, the author of Two on a Sled took out some time from her busy schedule to share some interesting facts about herself and I loved every bit of it!

Q: Where do you get your writing ideas from?

A: Writing ideas surround us. We just need to be aware – neighbors, friends/foes and folks on any street.  I build characters from many people. The trick is to make each character memorable as each should play a part in moving the story along from beginning to the last period.

Q: Which book and/or author inspired YOU to be an author?

A: I suppose Mark Twain was most inspirational. He could spin a tale with description enough to suck readers “into the story.”

Q: What is your favorite book from your childhood?

A: Heidi and Little Women were two favorites of mine. My focus is on the characters and how their parts weave through the story.

We should all remember Alcott’s quote when we found ourselves for not getting published or whatever: “We all have our own life to pursue, our own kind of dream to be weaving, and we all have the power to make wishes come true, as long as we keep believing.” This has worked for me.

Q: Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from the book Two on a Sled?

A: Amy Adams or Julia Roberts would make Lizbeth come to life on the big screen. However, I’m still looking for the Mr. Right, “Bill.”

Q: How were you as a student?

A: From kindergarten I was a talker, often asking many “why” questions. I loved school (just not math or science) and rarely missed a day. One complaint I have, especially about professors, is their superior knowledge as to why so-in-so wrote such-in-such as far back as the first written word.  Writers write whatever comes into their heads and it’s not always connected to sex or religion – just often!
